Sylhet college girl Jhuma’s assailant detained
Sylhet: Police held the assailant, who stabbed female college student Jhuma at Kaliganj Bazar in Zakiganj upazila on 15 January, in Sultanpur Haor area of the upazila on Thursday morning.
Sylhet additional superintendent of police Shuggyan Chakma said the attacker, Bahar Uddin, was held at about 7:00am.
Earlier, on 15 January, Bahar Uddin stabbed 19-year-old Jhuma Begum following the refusal of his marriage proposal.
Jhuma is a student of Ichhamati Degree College and a resident of Rasulpur village in the upazila.
However, Bahar Uddin is a student of the same college.
Bahar Uddin, a resident of Rasulpur village, had an affair with Jhuma for long. Around 5:00pm on 15 January, Bahar intercepted Suma at Kaliganj Bazar on her way home from the college and proposed marriage. As Jhuma refused the proposal, Bahar stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her injured, reports UNB.
Hearing the victim’s screams, local people rescued the girl and took her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The alleged attacker, however, managed to flee the scene before locals reached the spot.
On 16 January, Karima Begum, Jhuma’s mother, filed a case against Bahar Uddin with the Sylhet police.
