5 killed, 40 burned in Gaibandha petrol bomb attack

Petrol bomb attack by miscreants on a bus in Gaibandha has left five persons, including a child, dead.

About 40 passengers have also suffered burn injuries in the attack.

At first, the injured were admitted to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital. Later on, 20 people were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital’s Burn Unit as their conditions deteriorated, confirmed Gaibandha Sadar Hosiptal residential medical officer (RMO) Abu Hanif.

It was understood that a bus of Napu Paribahan came under petrol bomb attack on its way from Gaibandha to Dhaka at about 10:45pm on Friday at Tulsighat.

Among the deceased, the child reportedly died on the spot, two persons died on the way to hospital, and two persons died after reaching the hospital.

Gaibandha Police Superintendent Ariful Islam said they will hand over the bodies to the family members.

Following the incident security was tightened in the area.
