Central jail gets two high-tech prison vans
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday handed over two high-tech prison vans to the central jail in Keraniganj to ensure security while prisoners are transported from one place to another.
These vans, which have Wi-Fi, CCTV camera and web-based surveillance system, will be used to carry serious accused like militants, top criminals and accused in sensational cases, reports UNB.
The CCTV cameras will be monitored by the Home Ministry and the prison authorities’ office during the transportation of prisoners.
The Home Minister said they will increase the number of such prison vans if the launched ones are found useful.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin, Deputy Inspector General (DIG-Prisons) Colonel Towhidul Islam, joint secretary of Home Ministry Shamsul Alam, jail superintendent Jahangir Alam were present at the inaugural programme.
On February 2014, Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) members attacked a prison van in Trishal, Mymenshing, and snatched three of their top leaders while they were being transported from Kashimpur jail to a court.
