PM to propose neutral persons for EC formation: Quader
Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will propose neutral persons for the constitution of the Election Commission.
“I can say for sure there’ll no party men in the names proposed by Sheikh Hasina as the government head for the EC formation. The President will constitute the Election Commission with neutral persons,” he said.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, was addressing the triennial conference of Dhaka city (South) unit‘s ward-20 Jubo League in the city.
He also blasted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her comments that the EC will not be acceptable if it is formed at the will of the government.
“When you (Khaleda) were in power, you formed an Aziz-type Election Commission. Wasn’t he a BNP man? You wanted to make KM Hasan the chief adviser of the then caretaker government. Wasn’t Hasan international affairs secretary of BNP? And Now, you talk about neutrality,” he said.
City South unit Jubo League president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat presided over the programme.
