Transport owners, workers’ strike in 21 districts continue

Satkhira: An indefinite strike enforced in 21 south‐western districts of the country by Goods Transport Owners’ and Labourers’ Alliance entered the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
The indefinite strike started early on Monday as per the announcement of the Alliance to press home its 12‐point demand, including a stop to harassment by law enforcers.
The alliance’s other demands include removal of taxes imposed on goods carrying vehicles and an end to harassment by the officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
The strike will continue until the demands are met, said Shawkat Ali, general secretary of Bhomra Land Port Transport Owners’ Co‐operative Society.
Due to the strike, trucks, lorries, tank‐lorries, covered‐vans and pickups have not run in the 21 districts since Monday.
