Lawyers meet Mujahid

Narayanganj: The lawyers of condemned prisoner Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid met him at Narayanganj jail on Saturday, ahead of Sunday’s appeal hearing against the ICT-2 verdict sentencing him to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
Sources said three lawyers led by Supreme Court lawyer Sishir Manir entered the jail at about 10:25 am and left it at about 11:10am.
The other lawyers are Najibur Rahman and Ehsan Siddique.
The lawyers said they met him for discussion over the Sunday’s hearing on the appeal against the ICT-2 verdict.
On 29 April, the Appellate Division started the appeal hearing of condemned prisoner Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid against the ICT-2 verdict.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on 17 July 2013, awarded Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid death penalty for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation forces, after finding the Al Badar boss guilty of five, out of seven charges.
The charges included murder of intellectuals, genocide, abduction and persecution.
On 11 August 2013, Mujahid filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against his capital punishment in the case for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
