Arrest warrant issued against Tarique Rahman

Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in Zia Orphanage Trust Graft Case.
Special Judge Court-3 Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar issued the order rejecting a petition submitted by his lawyer Sanaullah Miah seeking adjournment of a hearing.
The court issued the arrest warrant as Tarique Rahman did not present before the court on scheduled time.
In the same case, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not appear before the court on Thursday. The BNP chief’s lawyer Sanaullah Mia filed a time petition and court accepting the plea asked Khaleda Zia to present before the court on 30 January.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.
ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid, also an investigation officer of the case, pressed the charges against the accused on 16 January, 2012.
The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on 3 July, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21. 0 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
