A Gaibandha tribunal on Thursday convicted three young men and sentenced them to death for killing a minor boy in Sadar upazila in 2010.

The condemned convicts are — Jahidul Islam Jahid, 27, son of Billu Miah, Pabel Miah, 19, son of Azgar Ali and Rubel Miah, 25 — residents of Pirgachha village of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.

Mohibul Haque Sarker, special public prosecutor of Women and Children Repression and Prevention Tribunal said that Jahid, Pabel and Rubel kidnapped Tahsin Arnob, 5, son of Aminul Islam Rumel, of Laxmipur village  on July 27, 2010 when he came to his grandfather’s house with his mother at Khamar Pirgachha village.

Later, the kidnappers demanded ransom from Tahsin’s parents.

However, police recovered Tahsin’s body from a waterbody in the village a day after his abduction.

Tahsin’s father filed a murder case against 10 people with Sadar police station.

After examining the records and witnesses, Ratneshwar Bhattacharya, judge of the tribunal, passed the order acquitting seven other accused.
