Dhaka: Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahabub-ul-Alam Hanif today said the BNP raised question about the search committee only to create controversy over the formation of the new Election Commission.

"The BNP is issuing confusing statements only to make the process of EC formation controversial, not the search committee as it (BNP) has lack of confidence in mass people," he said while speaking at a discussion organized by Dhaka South City unit of Jatiya Sramik League (JSL) at Dhaka Dental College here.

Hanif urged the BNP leaders to keep faith on the initiatives of the honourable President and not to involve in any unnecessary debate over the search committee and subsequently the formation of the new Election Commission.

"Keep confidence in the President . . . He (President) will constitute a faithful Election Commission" to all, the AL leader mentioned.

Hanif said the President formed a search committee after a series of talks with the respective political parties and all members of the committee have no political identities or political engagements.

Criticizing the BNP's role, he said the BNP is also hatching conspiracy against the government fearing the defeat in the upcoming polls.

People will give a befitting reply to all intrigues through the next polls, if the BNP doesn't shun the politics of conspiracy.

AL Labour and Manpower Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj was given a reception in the programme with Jatiya Sramik League (JSL) President Delwar Hossain in the chair.

JSL General Secretary Sirajul Islam and Gazi Mejbaul Hossain Bachchu, among others, spoke on the occasion.
