2 to die, 12 get life term for killing fishermen in 2010
Barguna: A Barguna court on Monday sentenced two people to death and 12 others to life term imprisonment for killing two fishermen in 2010.
The condemned convicts are—Rustam Hawladar, 50 and Babul Majhi of Dema-Gulishakhali village in Sadar upazila.
The lifers are—Bashar, Riaz Gazi, Khokon, Sentu, Fazlu Hawladar, Khalek, Manirul Islam, Rahim, Babul, Kuti Mia, Badal and Hanif.
The court also sentenced Habibur Rahman Jamaddar, a so called prophet of Patharghata upazila to seven years imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, 16 fishermen along with Aynal, 24 and Faruk, 40 of Patharghata upazila, went to the Bay of Bengal to catch fish on February 14, 2010.
Rustam and Babul drowned Aynal and Faruk in the sea saying that would be made alive again on that day with the help of the so called ‘prophet’.
Later, Aynal’s brother filed a case with Sadar police Station on March 6, 2010.
After examining the records and the witnesses, Barguna Additional District and Session Judge Abu Taher handed down the verdict.
