Kushtia: A man was killed and six others were injured during a clash between two groups of Awami League over land related dispute in the village of Mothpara under Ziarakhi union at Sadar upazila in Kushtia on Friday morning.

The deceased is Idris Ali, in his forties.

Police and local people said there was a dispute between the supporters of Ziarakhi union Awami League general secretary Abdul Quader, and Mathpara ward AL president Afzal Hossain Master for a long time over establishing supremacy on a piece of land. Abdul Quader’s follower Shahjahan Islam, and Afzal Hossain’s man Ismail locked into an altercation over the land at about 8:00am. At one stage, the two groups involved in a clash and left Idris Ali dead on the spot after hitting him with a local-made sharp weapon.

Idris Ali was a supporter of Mathpara AL president Afzal Hossain.

Six people, including a woman, were also injured during the clash. Three injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital, while others left the hospital after receiving primary treatment.

However, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The Kushtia Police Officer-in-charge (OC-Investigation) Rabiul Islam Khan said additional police members have been deployed in the area to avoid further clashes.
