Dhaka: Aminul Islam Baig, one of the two suspected members of Middle East-based militant outfit Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), who were arrested from Dhaka on Sunday night, works for a local unit of the Coca-Cola Company, said police.

The Dhaka metropolitan police joint commissioner Monirul Islam said Aminul, in his late thirties, had earlier worked as a regional coordinator of the banned militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The other man held is Sakib bin Kamal, who is 30 years old. International Beverages Pvt Ltd., a local bottling unit for Coca-Cola, confirmed in an e-mailed statement that Baig is an employee. The company will ‘fully cooperate with the law enforcement agencies as required,’ it said, reports New York news agency Bloomberg.

Earlier, a team of Detective Branch raided the house of Aminul in Uttara sector 14 and arrested him on Sunday evening, said DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Monday morning.

As per Aminul’s statement, the law enforcers conducted another drive in the house of Sakib in Lalmatia area, Dhaka and arrested him on Sunday night, said Monirul Islam.

During primarily interrogation, Aminul revealed that he already collected 20 people, including Sakib, from Bangladesh to join ISIS and then send to Syria and Iraq, Monirul said.

Both of the detainee are now remanded in a 3-day police custody for quizzing.

Police have arrested at least 14 Islamic State suspects in Bangladesh over the past year, according to a report.
