Dhaka: A pen sculpture and a pen museum will be built on the premises of Alor Bhuban Adarsha Primary School at the rural landscape of Jangalia of Madhupur upazila in Tangail marking the 50thanniversary of National Independence Day in 2021.

Jahangir Kabir, a local youth and founder of Alor Bhuban Adarsha Primary School, formed an association named 'Sculpture 2021' to build the sculpture and the museum.

The members of 'Sculpture 2021' have been collecting pens from various educational institutions for building the sculpture since 2013, said Kabir.

The sculpture will be constructed using 5 million discarded pens of 50,000 students of 50 primary schools, 50 high schools, 50 colleges and 50 universities, he told the UNB correspondent.

At the pen museum, pens of 50 renowned personalities, including teachers, artists, journalists, musicians, writers and composers, will be put on display.

The construction of the sculpture will start after 50 months of the pen collection. Fifty young men and women of different colleges and universities will participate in the construction of the sculpture, said Kabir.

Alor Bhuban Adarsha Primary School was established by Jahangir Kabir, aiming to provide education to underprivileged children.

There is no educational institution within 7-8 km of the Upazila headquarters. Now Alor Bhuban Adarsha Primary School, situated on a 60-decimal land, is the only hope. Abdus Sattar, a farmer of Jangalia village, donated the land out of his passion for education.

Enthusiastic college and university students run the school with their pocket money.

The pen collection campaign has been successful and the campaign spread to 16 districts, Kabir claimed.

Thousands of visitors come every year to enjoy the natural beauty of Madhupur. Aiming to add more attraction to it, the place has been chosen for building the pen sculpture and the pen museum, he said.

The height of the sculpture will be a 50-foot one. The pen museum will be set up adjacent to the sculpture where pens and handwritings of renowned writers, artists, Noble laureates, poets, journalists and Oscar laureates would be put on display.

The pen museum will be inaugurated, marking the 65th anniversary of the International Mother Language Day this year.

A theme song, composed by Rafiquzzaman and Moinul Islam Khan and play backed by Rumana Morshed Kanakchapa and Maksud along with 48 young singers, has been chosen as part of campaign of the initiative.
