Sylhet: Police on Tuesday arrested a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) from the university campus for sexually harassing a female student of the university.

The arrestee is Rifat Adnan Papan, a student of the Business Administration Department of the university.

Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, said police arrested Papan at about 6:00pm as per the request of the university administration.

On Monday, a female student of the SUST Economics Department submitted a written complaint to the acting proctor of the university against Papan for sexually harassing her.

Rifat Adnan Papan was earlier expelled from the university twice on charge of vandalising shops inside the campus, extortion and assaulting a Nepalese student.

Turning down the allegation brought by the female student, Papan said he just threw a sandal to her as she made some offensive comments against his mother near the main gate of the university on Sunday evening.
