Dhaka: The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four other election commissioners will take oath on February 15.

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha will administrate the oath at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge at 3:00pm, Sabbir Foyez, additional registrar of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, told news agency UNB on Tuesday.

President Abdul Hamid on Monday night constituted the new Election Commission making former secretary KM Nurul Huda the CEC, as the tenure of the current EC expires by February 14.

He also appointed four new election commissioners -- former additional secretary Mahbub Talukder, ex-secretary Rafiqul Islam, ex-district and session’s judge Begum Kabita Khanam and Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

The CEC and the election commissioners will conduct the next general election scheduled for January 2019.
