Wife of slain journalist Shimul gets job
Sirajganj: Nurun Nahar, wife of local journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul who was shot to death during a factional clash of Awami League in Shahjadpur upazila, has been given a job at Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) under the Health Ministry.
She has been appointed as a production worker at the state-owned pharmaceutical company.
Hasibur Rahman Swapan, MP from Sirajganj constituency-6, received the appointment letter from EDCL Managing Director Dr Ehsanul Kabir Jaglul on behalf of Nahar on Wednesday.
The MP will hand over the appointment letter to Nahar on Friday.
Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of the Daily Samakal, sustained bullet wounds during the clash between the supporters of Shahjadpur municipality Awami League’s sacked president Abdur Rahim (VP Rahim) and unit organisational secretary and municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru in Monirampur area of the upazila on February 2.
Shimul succumbed to his injuries the following day while being taken to Dhaka from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra for better treatment.
During a visit to the slain journalist’s house on February 4, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim assured the family of giving a job to Shimul’s wife at EDCL, and gave Tk 1 lakh as assistance.
