BNP ex-lawmaker Shahidul gets 9yrs in prison in graft case
A Patuakhali court on Monday sentenced Shahidul Alam Talukdar, former lawmaker from Patuakhali-2 constituency, to nine years’ imprisonment in a corruption case.
Judge Basu Deb Roy of the Special Session’s Judge Court also ordered confiscation of the former lawmaker’s property and fined him Tk 1 lakh. He will have to serve six months more in prison if he fails to pay the penalty, reports UNB.
Shahidul was standing on the dock when the judge pronounced the verdict.
Lutfur Rahman, deputy director of Patuakhali office of the Anti Corruption Commission, filed the case against the former lawmaker on April 25 2010 for amassing wealth worth Tk 23 lakh illegally and concealing information of his wealth in the statement submitted to the anti-graft body.
