Take stern actions against anarchists
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Thursday urged the law enforcement agencies to take stern legal actions against those killing people by hurling petrol bombs and torching vehicles as they are the enemies of democracy.
"You know the people of Bangladesh are democracy-loving ones. So was our Liberation War aim. Having differences of opinion in a democratic society is normal and that’s the beauty of democracy. That’s why it’s important to practice democratic norms and values, including tolerance, mutual respect," he said.
The president came up with the remark while addressing police officials at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion of Annual Police Week-2015.
Hamid said, "But I’m shocked and hurt along with the people of the country the way recently innocent people have been killed through hurling petrol bombs and torching vehicles. The people who are involved in the atrocities are the enemies of democracy, humanity and civilisation."
He also asked the police officials to keep vigil so that no one can raise question over the responsibility and duty of the police.
State minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, Home Ministry senior secretary Mozammel Haque Khan and IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque were, among other, present on the occasion.
