Narayanganj: Chan Miah alias Chandu, a bus driver who is the prime accused in the rape of a garment worker inside a factory vehicle, has confessed his crime.

He made a confessional statement before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate HM Shafiqul Islam on Thursday, said Sonargaon Police officer-in-charge Manzur Kader.

Kader said Chan Miah told the court that he along with three others raped the woman worker inside the bus, and left her beside a street in an unconscious state in Charkamaldi area of Sonargaon upazila on 11 May.

The accused, who was arrested by a team of police from Genda bus stand in Savar upazila of Dhaka on Wednesday night, gave the confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The worker, an employee of a RMG factory in Araihazar upazila, was raped in a factory bus in Dhondi area of Sonargaon upazila while returning home from her workplace on 11 May.

When all but the victim got down from the bus, bus driver Chandu Miah, his assistant Rubel and other associates raped the girl in the vehicle.

Police seized the bus and arrested driver’s assistant in a drive on the following day.

Later on 13 May, Rubel gave confessional statement before the court.
