BCL man killed in infighting

Rajshahi: An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was shot to death and five others were injured in a clash between two groups of the student wing of the ruling Awami League at Ranibazar in Rajshahi on Thursday night.
The deceased is Jiban Sheikh, in his twenties, a resident of Raninagar area.
Local people said Robin, president of the BCL Rajshahi City College unit, and Tuhin, a leader of the unit, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
The Boalia police said, Robin called Tuhin over phone to meet him near City College on Thursday afternoon where supporters of Robin beat up Tuhin.
Later, Robin along with around 60 supporters swooped on the office of Atikur Rahman Kalu, president of Boalia thana unit Awami League, and father of Tuhin in the evening.
They also hit Tushar, brother of Tuhin, with a sharp weapon and vandalised the office and a motorcycle as the AL leader informed the matter to police.
As soon as the news spread, supporters of Tuhin rushed to the spot.
A chase and counter chase took place between supporters of both the groups, triggering a clash.
Both groups exchanged gunfire during the incident.
The clash left four other people injured.
At one stage, Jibon, a supporter of Robin, sustained bullet injuries in his left eye and was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Injured Tushar and four others were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
