Gazipur: Fire fighters brought fire under control at a textile mill at Sreepur, in Gazipur, 37kilometres north from the capital, after 14 hours in the early hours of Monday.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, fire broke out on the third floor the building of Dignity Textile in the Natun Bazar area. 16 fire trucks from Gazipur, Kaliakoir, Tongi, Sripur and Bhaluka were sent to the spot as the fire engulfed the whole building.

The fire fighters brought the fire under control when the top floors of the 8-storeyed iron-structure building collapsed at about 4:00am.

The fire damaged raw materials, machineries and other equipment of the factory.
Gazipur Fire Service deputy director Akhtaruzzaman said fire damaged huge raw material, but the cause and extend of loss are yet to be assessed.

No injury and loss of life was reported as most of the workers came out of the building just after the fire spread in the steel and corrugated iron-sheet-made building.

A five-member investigation committee headed by Sripur upazila executive officer Siddiqur Rahman has been formed in this connection.
