2 killed in B’baria ‘gunfights’
A suspected drug peddler and a robber were killed in separate incidents of ‘gunfight’ with police in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on early Thursday.
The deceased are Nurul Islam and Bulbul.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-charge Ali Arshad said police arrested Nurul Islam from Singabil area on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
After gleaning information in a primary interrogation, a team of police along with Nurul conducted a drive in Merashani Bazar area in the early morning.
When the team reached the area, his associates opened fire on police, prompting the law enforcer to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Nurul died on the spot during the exchange of fire.
Police also recovered two kilograms hemp, a pipe gun, two-round cartridges, and two machetes from the spot.
Besides, Bulbul was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police as a team of police conducted drive on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Khetabari area while a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery early in the morning.
Mofiz Uddin, officer-in-charge of detective branch of police, said that a policeman was also injured in the gunfight.
