Pabna: The prime accused of Samakal journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case, Halimul Haque Miru, also the Shahjadpur municipality mayor, and his brother, Hamidul Haque Hiro, were removed from the list of freedom fighters.

Earlier, on Thursday, Shahjadpur upazila freedom fighter inspection committee issued a list of 175 people who are not freedom fighters. Miru and Hero were named in the list.

Around 31 people were removed from the freedom fighters’ list.

According to the list, Mohammad Halimul Haque Miru, son of Mohammad Abu Taleb Mia of the village of Shahjadpur, is not a freedom fighter.

Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of vernacular daily Dainik Samakal, sustained bullet injuries during a clash between two associate bodies of Awami League in Shahjadpur on 2 February.

Later, he died on the way to Dhaka on 3 February.

Police arrested Miru, also the suspended district Awami League organising secretary, on 5 February in Dhaka.
