Five mayoral candidates have submitted their nomination papers for contesting the Comilla City Corporation election.

Besides, 145 contestants will vie for 27 general ward councillor posts and 42 women for nine reserved councillor seats.

The mayoral aspirants are Anjum Sultana Sima of Awami League, Monirul Haque Sakku of BNP, Shirin Akhter of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Saibur Rahman of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and independent candidate Major (rted) Mamunur Rashid, reports UNB.

At a press conference at the Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital on February 20 last, New Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the schedule for the election which will be held on March 30.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers for Comilla City Corporation election ended on Thursday while the dates for scrutiny of the nomination papers are March 5 and 6, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 14.
