Election to 18 upazilas, municipalities Monday

Eighteen upazilas and municipalities are going to election and by-election in 15 districts on Monday under the newly formed Election Commission headed by KM Nurul Huda.

The balloting will be held from 8:00am to 4:00pm without any break in 14 upazilas and four municipalities, reports UNB.

Among the local bodies, three newly formed upazilas — Osmaninagar in Sylhet, Jagannathpur in Sunamganj and Guimara in Khagrachhari— will go to regular election, while 11 upazilas and four municipalities to by-election.

The 11 upazilas are Jaldhaka in Nilphamari, Sujanagar and Ishwardi in Pabna, Baraigram in Natore, Hossainpur in Kishoreganj, Banaripara and Gouranodi in Barisal, Rangabali in Patuakhali, Kolaroa in Satkhira, Morelganj in Bagerhat and Adarsha Sadar in Comilla.

The four municipalities that will go to by-polls are Sakhipur in Tangail, Golachipa in Patuakhali, Arani in Rajshahi and Sherpur in Bogra.

Over22.86 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in 14 upazilas and four municipalities.

About Monday’s election, Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Abdullah said, ‘If anyone engages in anomalies, he or she won’t spared.’
