Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque on Saturday asked the transport owners not to run the buses after 9:00pm as safety concern has already been heightened by frequent firebombing on transports at night time.

The owners, however, sought two to three-day time whether they would comply with the request.

Following a meeting with the transport owners at Rajarbagh police headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday, Shahidul at a press briefing said they did not want buses out on roads at night and asked the transport owners to act accordingly. But they refused to do that, added Shahidul.

He said the owners sought police permission that they would take the law into their own hands and punish any person who intends to attack their vehicles.

Shahidul Hoque said they would consider that proposal later after consulting with the higher authorities.

Transport owners' association president Enayetullah Khan said they did not drop the police proposal yet. They would consult the other district entrepreneurs and give decision to the law enforcers by two or three days, he added.
