Tongi prison van ‘attacker’ put on 5-day custody
A Gazipur court on Tuesday placed Mostafa Kamal, the suspected attacker on a prison van carrying Huji chief Mufti Hannan and some of his associates, on a five-day custody in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Judge of Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court-4 Mahbuba Akther passed the order after police produced Mostafa, 22, hailing from Pagli village in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, before the court seeking a 10-day custody, said court inspector Robiul Islam, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station Firoz Talukder said Mostafa, who had been involvement in the militant activities, went missing from his madrashah in Narsingdi a month ago.
Police on Monday night filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against Mostafa and 4-5 others.
Two crude bombs were hurled at the prison van carrying Mufti Hannan on Monday afternoon while Mufti Hannan and his aides were being taken to Kashimpur jail from a Dhaka court.
Later, police arrested alleged attacker Mostafa from the spot along with a bag containing two patrol bombs, two sound grenades, two crude bombs and two machetes.
The arrested youth reportedly confessed to police that he exploded the bombs targeting the prison van in exchange for Tk 10,000.
