Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Wednesday convicted two people and sentenced them to death for killing the wife of a RAB officer in 2014.

The court also fined the two convicts—Abul Bashar Hawladar, son of Nasir Hawladar, and Harun Gharami, son of Apter Ali of Patuakhali district---Tk 20,000 each.

According to the prosecution, Salma Sultana, wife of Sheikh Omar Ali, an officer of RAB-4 in Nabinagar and a resident of Tongi, was hacked to death by miscreants on November 8, 2014.

Later, Omar Ali filed a case with Tongi Police Station. Shamsul Haq, assistant superintendent of Gazipur police and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet against five people including the two convicts after investigation on August 15, 2015.

After examining the records and witnesses, Gazipur District and Session Judge AKM Enamul Haq handed down the verdict and acquitted three others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
