Huge grenades seized after attack on cops
Chittagong: Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive recovered 29 grenades, 40 bombs and 240 bomb-making materials from a ‘militant den’ at Gobhania in Mirsarai upazila early Wednesday.
Acting on the confessional statements of two suspected militants—Hasan, 30, and Jasim, 32,-- arrested from Chandina upazila in Comilla while hurling bombs at police, a CTTC team conducted the drive at the house of Hasan at the dead of night, said police super of the district Nure Alam.
During the drive, police recovered the 29 grenades, 40 bombs, 240 bomb-making materials, nine sharp weapons, seven black panjabis and a banner, said the SP while speaking at a press briefing in the afternoon.
The arrestees were said to be the followers of a group of international militant organisation but the outfit could not yet be identified.
During interrogation, police got information that there are more 8-9 members in the gang, including women, though three have already been arrested, he added.
Earlier, on Tuesday, miscreants hurled a bomb at police during their drive in a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Shyamali Paribahan’ on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Khadghar in Chandina upazila of Comilla district.
Police arrested two suspected militants-- Hasan, 30, and Jasim, 32— and recovered four crude bombs from their possessions.
