Chittagong: A child was shot dead by some extortionists at Mohammadpur under Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong on Tuesday night.

The deceased is Asadul, 11, a resident of Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district.

Police said a group of extortionists called Tempu Bahini led by Shohag demanded money from local businessman Delwar.

However, Delwar denied paying the money and on Tuesday night, Shohag along with his supporters went to Mohammadpur area to kill Delwar.

At a stage, they shot Delwar but the bullet hit Asadul instead at about 8:20pm, leaving him injured.

Asadul was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Asadul had come to his uncle’s house in Chittagong a few days back.

A case was filed against four people in this connection.

Member of Rab-7 of Chandgaon camp arrested two youths–Sayem, reportedly a BCL activist and Babu–from Muradpur area under Panchlaish police station for their suspected link with the murder.
