10 more lose lives in arson attacks
Ten people were killed in two firebomb attacks in Gaibandha and Barisal districts in a span of six hours from Friday night, as there has been no letup in the senseless arson attacks across the country.
Seven of the victims were killed in Gaibandha while three in Barisal.
Seven people, including a woman and her minor boy, were killed and 27 others injured after miscreants hurled a firebomb at the Dhaka-bound bus of Napu Paribahan carrying 50 day-labourers under police escort in Tulshighat area on Gaibandha-Palashbari road in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha around 11pm on Friday.
The arson attack left three passengers, including a child, dead on the spot, while another died on the way to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Twenty-two of the injured were taken to the medical college hospital where a woman, her minor son and a man died on Saturday. The rest were admitted to Gaibandha Modern Hospital.
The tragedy struck the victims while they were going to Dhaka in search of job, said police.
Mosharraf Hossain, additional superintendent of police of Gaibandha, said police arrested seven people from different places for their alleged involvement in the arson attack.
In Barisal, three people, including the driver, were killed when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a truck on Dhaka-Barisal highway at Mahilara in Gournadi upazila in the early hours.
Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gournadi Police Station, said the miscreants hurled the firebomb at the Barisal-bound truck carrying poultry feed around 5am, leaving its driver and two others dead on the spot.
On information, police rushed in and recovered the bodies.
The tragic incident took place on the 33rd day of the nonstop countrywide transport blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
