Dhaka: Before finalising her party’s proposal on election-time government’s framework, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia has elicited opinions from some pro-BNP senior professionals to enrich the idea.

Six professionals, including ex-VC of Dhaka University Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, its former pro-VC AFM Yusuf Haider, Prof Mahbub Ullah, and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, met Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Sunday night and sheared their opinions on the election-time government, a BNP leader close to the BNP chief told news agency UNB.

He said Khaleda Zia will very soon present the proposal before the nation at a press conference at her Gulshan office.

During the meeting, the BNP leader said, the four intellectuals suggested Khaleda Zia to take to the streets with different issues relating to public interests.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was also present at the meeting.

Contacted, Dr Zafrullah said they discussed various issues relating to the country’s current political situation, BNP’s organisational activities and the next general election.

“I requested Madam (Khaleda Zia) to reinforce her party’s organisational activities and visit different districts outside Dhaka to drum up public support and invigorate party leaders and activists,” he said.

Prof Emajuddin said they discussed the country’s overall political situation and the election-time government framework.

He said they gave their opinions to consider for finalising the framework of the polls-time administration.

The former DU VC said Khaleda Zia will place the proposal soon after holding a meeting of BNP standing committee members.

He said they suggested Khaleda Zia to complete the overhauling process of her party as soon as possible by announcing new committees of its all units and associate bodies to take proper preparations for the next election.

All the six professionals present at the meeting, Emajuddin said requested Khaleda Zia to be more active in politics by paying visits to different districts and holding meetings with party all levels of leaders and activists.
