Dinajpur: A self-claimed spiritual leader and his female follower were shot to death and slaughtered by miscreants at Hatrampur in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur on Monday evening.

The deceased are Farhad Hossain Chowdhury, in his fifties, of Doula village, and his female follower Rupali Begum, in her twenties, wife of Sirajul Islam. Sirajul is also one of the followers of Farhad Hossain Chowdhury.

Local people said Farhad along with Rupali was staying at his shrine, known as Mohammadi Kaderia Darbar Sharif, at Hatrampur near Doula village in the evening. At one stage, electricity went off.

Under the cover of darkness, the miscreants shot them and later slaughtered them, they said.

Officer‐in‐charge of Bochaganj Police Station Habibul Haque Pradhan said the duo was murdered sometime between 7:00pm and 8:00pm.

On information, they went to the spot to recover the bodies from the scene around 10:00pm.

There were marks of bullets and sharp weapons on the bodies, the OC said, adding that it was still not clear who were behind the killing.
