Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not appear before the lower court in 11 cases on Tuesday as she suddenly fell ill in the morning.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Sanaullah Mia and Syed Joynul Abedin Mezbah told NTV Online the BNP chief was scheduled to appear before Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla’s court for hearing over charge framing in the cases. However, Khaleda Zia will not appear before the court as she fell sick.

Khaleda Zia’s counsels will filed a time petition before the court.

The BNP chairperson was programmed to appear before the court in eight violence cases filed with Mirpur’s Darussalam police, a sedition
case, and two other cases filed with Jatrabari police.

Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehedi, a Supreme Court lawyer and member of the ruling Awami League’s central committee, on 25 January 2016, filed the case against Khaleda for her remarks on the number of Liberation War martyrs.

Earlier on 23 January 2015, at least 29 people suffered burn injuries as miscreants hurled two petrol bombs at a Glory Paribahan bus at Katherpul of Jatrabari on its way to Rupganj from Gulistan.

One of the injured, Nur Alam, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 1 February 2015.

Jatrabari police sub-inspector KM Nuruzzaman filed two cases—one for killing and the other for hurling petrol bombs—under the Special Powers Act on 24 January showing Khaleda Zia as the mastermind behind the incident.

However, eight cases were filed on violence charges with Darussalam police in 2015 against Khaleda Zia and others.

Police filed charge sheets to the Dhaka Metropolitan Megistrate’s court in the cases this year. Later, Khaleda Zia got bail after appearing before the court.
