Suspected criminal killed in B’baria ‘gunfight’
Brahmanbaria: A suspected criminal was killed in a gunfight between the police and his associates in Kuti Choumohoni area under Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria early on Thursday.
The deceased is Tajul Islam Al Mahmud alias Mama Hujur, in his forties, of Nabiganj under Habiganj.
Police suspected that Tajul had a link with the murder of a local kabiraj (herbal medicine practitioner), said Kasba police officer‐in‐charge Mohiuddin Ahmed.
He said: ‘Acting on a tip‐off, a team of police raided Kuti Choumohoni area where Tajul along with his associates was preparing to commit subversive activities.
‘Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals hurled crude bombs and opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.’
‘At one stage of the gunfight, police found the bullet‐hit body of Tajul while the others managed to flee the scene,’ added the OC.
Five policemen received injuries during the gunfight, said the police adding that a number of firearms, bombs and sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
