Dhaka: The government has taken up the initiative to bring festival allowances and bonus enjoyed by the government officials under tax net.

Currently, government officials pay tax only on their basic salary.

While unveiling the budget for fiscal year 2015-16, Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the disclosure and termed the existing provision as discriminatory.

‘As first step to remove such discrimination, I propose similar tax treatment on basic salary, bonus and festival allowance for both government and non-government salaried employees,’ the minister said.
