Baitul Mukarram Imam recruitment stayed
Dhaka: The High Court on Thursday stayed for three months the effectiveness of a recent circular issued by the Islamic Foundation for recruiting Pesh Imam for Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
An HC bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Farid Ahmed came up with the stay order in response to a writ petition filed by Khatib of Borogaon Mosque in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur Abdur Rahim.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why the circular should not be declared illegal.
The Religious Affairs Secretary, the Islamic Foundation Director General and its Secretary have been made respondents to the rule.
Earlier on May 6 last, the Islamic Foundation issued a circular for recruiting Pesh Imam for Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Instead of five years’ experience required to apply for the post under the employment rules of the Islamic Foundation, the circular set a higher requirement of eight years’ experience, according to the petitioner.
