Voting begins in Gaibandha‐1 by‐polls
Gaibandha: The by‐election to Gaibandha‐1 (Sundarganj) constituency, which fell vacant following the killing of Awami League Lawmaker Manjurul Islam Litonhas begun held on Wednesday.
Voting started at about 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm.
Voters are seen marching towards the polling stations to franchise their votes.
The Gaibandha‐1 constituency is comprised of 15 unions and one municipality of Sundarganj upazila.
A total of 333,381 voters will exercise their franchise in the by‐election.
However, 27 mobile team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), 7 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and 29 members of polices and Ansar in each voting stations, are deployed to ensure security during the voting.
The constituency fell vacant on 31 December last after ruling party Lawmaker Liton was shot to death at his village home at Masterpara in Bamandanga union of Sundarganj in Gaibandha.
