Former husband detained over killing banker

Tangail: A team of detective branch (DB) of police arrested the lone accused of Jamuna bank official Arifun Nesa Arifa killing case in a resident of Dhanbari upazila in Tangail on Friday morning.

The detainee is Fakhrul Islam Robin, the former husband of the deceased.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) additional deputy commissioner (media) Yusuf Ali said a team of started for Dhaka along with the accused immediately after the arrest.

DMP will organise a press briefing at DMP centre at about 2:00pm in this connection.

Earlier, on 16 March, Arifun Nesa Arifa, in her late twenties, an official of Jamuna Bank, was stabbed to death allegedly by her former husband at Dhanmondi central road in Dhaka.

Arifa died undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 11:00am.

Arifa’s family members claimed her former husband Robin killed her.

DMCH Emergency unit resident doctor Jesmin Nahar said Arifa was stabbed and left critically injured at about 8:30am. She was admitted to the hospital at about 9:00am.

Jesmin Nahar said Arifa died as she was stabbed with a sharp weapon on right side of her throat.

DMCH Police post sub-inspector (SI) Bacchu Mia said a woman in critically injured condition was brought to the hospital at about 9:00am.

However, Arifa’s family claimed Robin stabbed her outside of her residence and fled from the spot.

Khadija Islam, Arifa’s sister-in-law, said Arifa worked in Jamuna Bank. She was married to Robin four years back. However, three month ago they had a divorce as they were not happy in their conjugal life.

Khadija Islam said Robin stabbed Arifa as she left her central road residence for office on Thursday morning. However, she was taken to DMCH, where she died undergoing treatment.
