Pro-BNP lawyers’ SCBA polls win exposes people’s anger

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday described pro-BNP lawyers’ victory in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election as the exposure of people’s anger against the ‘fascist’ government.
“Congratulations to the lawyers for making history through the victory in the SCBA polls. This win is an expression of public anger against the fascist regime,” she twitted.
The lawyers’ panel, backed by BNP and Jamaat, has won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election bagging eight out of 14 posts, including those of the president and secretary.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Advocate Zainul Abedin and party joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon have been elected president and general secretary of the body respectively for the 2017-18 term.
Awami League-backed lawyers’ panel got the remaining six posts, including that of the vice president and treasurer.
Coordinator of the SCBA’s election steering sub-committee and senior lawyer AY Moshiuzzaman announced the results on Friday.
