Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Monday expressed his country’s desire to work together with Bangladesh to curb militancy.

He expressed the willingness while talking to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over telephone, reports UNB.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Turkish Prime Minister made the phone call in the evening.

Binali Yildirim also condemned the Sylhet incident and expressed his sympathy over the casualties there, he said.

During the nearly 15-minute conversation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reiterated her government’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and said some derailed people are defaming Islam in the name of religion. ‘They’re destroying Islamic culture and heritage in the name of religion,’ she said.

Hasina said the Bangladesh government condemned the last year’s coup attempt in Turkey to overthrow the present government there. ‘We always uphold democracy and peace,’ she said.

She invited the Turkish Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

At the beginning of the conversation, Binali Yildirim exchanged greetings with Hasina and congratulated her on the occasion of the 47th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

He also mentioned the traditional and historic relations with Bangladesh which was reciprocated by Hasina.
