Joint forces storm Comilla ‘militant hideout’
Comilla: Sound of sporadic gunshots were heard as joint forces stormed a suspected militant den at South Bagmara in Sadar Dakkhin upazila in Comilla on Friday morning.
Police said the joint team comprising members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) started the operation codename ‘Strike Out’ around 11:00am.
Earlier, the SWAT team reached the spot in the morning.
Meanwhile, the local administration imposed section 144 in the area around 9:00am, said Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent (South) of police.
Based on intelligence information, a team of police cordoned off ‘the militant hideout’ in a three‐storey building in the area around 4:30pm on Wednesday.
All residents of the adjacent houses were evacuated.
Meanwhile, police detained Saddam Hossain, brother of house owner Delwar Hossain, for interrogation.
