BNP offers funeral prayer in absentia for JCD leader Nurul Alam
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday arranged a funeral prayer in absentia (gayebana janaza) in capital Dhaka seeking salvation of the departed soul of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nurul Alam Nuru who was killed reportedly by law enforcers in Chittagong's Ruazan.
The gayebana janaza was held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office after Asr prayers.
Senior BNP leaders, including Abdullah Al Noman, Mohammad Shahjahan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Habib-un-Nabi Sohel, Abdus Salam, Abul Khaier Bhuiyan, and leaders and activists of JCD and BNP’s other associate bodies attended the janaza.
A munajat was also offered after the janaza seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.
After the janaza, JCD leaders and activists staged a demonstration in front of the BNP office.
At a press briefing at BNP's Nayapaltan central office on Thursday, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Rauzan Police Station SI Sheikh Javed along with some other plainclothes police picked Nuru up from his Chandanpura residence in the port city around 11:30pm on Wednesday.
Later, he said, they killed him by firing 10 shots in his head in Bagowan area along the bank of the Karnaphuli River.
However, SI Javed dismissed the allegation, saying he has no idea about detaining Nuru from Chittagong city and he was there with his team in an anti-militancy drive at a madrasah in Raujan on Wednesday night.
