Narayanganj: A Narayanganj court on Monday fixed 8 July for order after hearing the no-confidence petition filed by Selina Islam Beauty, the widow of slain Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, against the charge-sheet in a case filed in connection with the sensational seven murders.

Senior Judicial Magistrate HM Shafiqul Islam fixed the date after hearing the plea in presence of 35 accused, including three sacked Rab officials–Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana, at the courtroom.

The Narayanganj Bar Association President and Selina’s lawyer Sakhawat Hossain said Selina Islam filed the no-confidence petition expressing her dissatisfaction over the exclusion of the names of five FIR-enlisted accused from the charge-sheet on 11 May. ‘During the hearing, we presented our arguments in support of the no-confidences petition,’ he said.

Additional PP Fazlur Rahman, who stood for the state, said they applied to the court to reject the no-confidence petition.

On 8 April, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including the three sacked Rab officials and Nur Hossain, now in an Indian jail, in connection with the seven murders.

After the murder of seven people, Selina Islam filed a case against six people while advocate Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law filed another case.

Later, Shahidul Islam, Nazrul's father-in-law, claimed that Rab officials killed Nazrul and others in exchange for Tk 6 crore from city councillor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the murder case, and other accomplices.

The three former officials of Rab-11 in Narayanganj were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the incident. They are now in jail.

On 14 June last, Paschimbanga police arrested Nur Hossain from an apartment in Kolkata.
