Cop suspended over female constable’s death

Mymensingh: The Gauripur police sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Mizanul was temporarily suspended after a case filed against him over instigating his female colleague to commit suicide.
Earlier, on 2 April, Constable Halima Khatun reportedly committed suicide by pouring kerosene on herself at a barrack in Gouripur Police Station.
Mymensingh superintendent of police (SP) Syed Nurul Islam said it seems Halima Khatun reportedly set herself on fire by pouring kerosene in a bid to commit suicide at the barrack, leaving herself critically injured.
She was taken to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where she died undergoing treatment.
It has been claimed that SI Mohammad Mizanul had an affair with Halima, which instigated her to commit suicide.
Later, Mizanul was withdrawn from the police station and sent to Mymensingh police lines for interrogation.
However, the district police formed a three-member probe committee, headed by an additional superintendent of police (ASP) Syed Nurul Islam, to investigate the matter.
The Gauripur police officer-in-charge (OC) Delwar Ahmed said SI Mizanul will be placed before the court in cases filed against him on charges of rape and instigating suicide.
Halima’s father, Helal Uddin filed a case with Gauripur police.
The probe committee will submit their probe report on Wednesday.
Mizanul is now kept at police custody. He will be shown arrested and sent to place before the court on Tuesday, said the OC.
