Sylhet rail links likely to resume this evening

Sylhet: The train service between Sylhet and rest of the country will be resumed by the evening of Thursday said the railway authorities.
On 5 April, the rail communication was suspended just two days after it was resumed.
Shayestaganj Railway Junction engineer Ruhul Akhter said a girder of a rail bridge near Itakhola railway station on the Akhaura-Sayestaganj route caved in due to wave of hilly water and rain.
The authorities halted services after a bridge in Moulvibazar’s Sreemangal Upazila turned risky following heavy rainfalls.
Earlier, on 29 March, the rail link of Sylhet and the other parts of the country was snapped as lands underneath a pillar of a rail bridge got washed due to heavy rainfall in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj.
Trains on the routes were resumed on 3 April after remaining suspended for four days.
The recent rainfall and landslides washed away several layers of soil from underneath the bridge between Sreemangal and Satgaon railway stations making it risky for the trains to operate.
