Khulna: A Khulna court on Tuesday sentenced seven siblings and their nephew to life term imprisonment for killing a farmer in 2009.

The court fined the lifers—Taj Uddin Sardar, resident of Majher Para village in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district, and his six brothers Rafiqul Islam Sardar, Siddikur Rahman Sardar, Amjad Sardar, Abdul Goni Sardar, Nazrul Islam Sardar, and Masum Sardar, and nephew Asaduzzaman Liton, Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the convicts beat up Moshiur Rahman Palash, brother of victim Majid Sardar, and his wife Shahida Begum on September 30, 2009 over a land‐related dispute.

They also beat up Majid Sardar mercilessly as he tried to save his brother and wife.

Critically injured, Majid was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries later.

Babul Rana, son of Majid Sardar, filed a case with Keshobpur Police Station accusing 11 persons in this connection.

After examining records and witnesses, Khulna Division Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge MA Rob Howlader handed down the verdict.
