Boy finds landmine while taking a dip in Bhairab river
A powerful landmine was recovered from the Bhairab river in Meherpur on Wednesday.
The law enforcers recovered the unexploded ordnance around 2.30 pm from the spot.
Locals said that Sijan, a 10-year-old boy, discovered the bomb while he was taking a bath in the Bhairab river adjacent to the Jadabpur Bridge, reports UNB.
Local freedom fighter Commander Al Amin identified it as a wartime mine and said it had been used in the Liberation War by the Pakistan Army.
Sub-inspector Tarikul Islam of Sadar Police station rushed to the spot hearing the information from the locals and brought it to the Station.
‘We sent a team to the spot to recover the explosive when locals informed us. It is assumed as a remnant of the war. We are examining it to be sure of the facts,’ Officer-in-charge of the police station Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said.
