A Jhalakathi court on Thursday sent the son of Jhalakathi municipality mayor to jail in two cases filed for embezzling money of a private bank.

The accused is Md Monirul Islam, 51, son of mayor Liakat Ali Talukder and also treasurer of Jhalakathi district Awami League, reports UNB.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order rejecting his bail petition when Monirul appeared before the court on expiry of his six-month bail granted earlier, said GRO of the court Pradip.

Court sources said manager Mizanur Rahman of United Commercial Bank of Barisal branch filed two cases against Monirul, his wife, also a former senior executive of the bank, Barisal city Jubo League leader Sahin Sikder and his wife Naima Rahman with Kotwali Model Police Station on December 19, 2016 for misappropriating the money of the bank.

It was mentioned in the case statement, the accused in collusion with each other misappropriated the money.
