Rangamati road blockade continues amid stray incidents
Rangamati: The day‐long transport blockade enforced by Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) is underway on Sunday amid stray incidents.
The PCP, a United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF)‐backed organisation of indigenous students, called the strike protesting the death of its leader Romel Chakma.
The protesters blocked the Rangamati‐Chittagong Highway early in the morning and reportedly vandalised a number of vehicles.
No long‐route buses were seen to leave the district since the morning while no launches were reported to sailing from the region till filing the report around 10:30am.
On 5 April, law enforcers picked Romel Chakma, general secretary of Naninarchar unit of PCP, up for his alleged involvement in carrying out an arson attack and looting a bus.
Later, Romel was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after he fell sick in the custody of Bangladesh Army.
He succumbed to his injuries on 19 April while undergoing treatment.
